Ephemeral expectations
Ambo negotiates the connotation of the terms "ephemeral" and "permanent" and questions their classification. By reversing the permanent and ephemeral properties of Lego bricks, the ambiguity inherent in all things is made clear. The once ephemeral process of taking apart and reassembling is captured in a permanent snapshot. The once permanent form of the stones, their straightness, transforms into organic, fragile sculptures. The known becomes the unknown, the Lego bricks transform into their opposite. Thus, the previously unambiguous connotation becomes ambivalent and existing assumptions are critically reflected upon. The examination of the terms ephemeral and permanent begins and questions arise. Which things are permanent, which ephemeral? Where would a little permanence do good, where a little ephemerality?
Isn't everything a little ephemeral?
